Vision-Ease Lens Introduces ChangeRx™ Plastic Photochromic Lenses

In a move that will make the advantages of photochromic lenses available to consumers with varying budgets, Vision-Ease Lens (VEL) today announced its latest product offering: new ChangeRx plastic photochromic lenses. The lenses combine lightweight comfort with superior photochromic performance. ChangeRx lenses provide 100 percent UVA and UVB protection, and will be available in SFSV, D28, PAL and FSV/FSV AR in both gray and brown.

“Offering ChangeRx plastic photochromics is our response to the price barrier found with other photochromic options,” said John Bator, senior product manager, VEL. “ChangeRx performance will have customers do a double take when it comes to the affordability.”

ChangeRx lenses are made with homogeneous “in mass” manufacturing, where photochromic molecules are embedded throughout the plastic lens monomer, not bonded or coated to the surface. The result is fast, uniform reactivity when exposed to UV light

Eleven percent lighter and more comfortable than standard hard resin lenses, ChangeRx lenses provide the optical performance of a 1.50 refractive index in hard resin material with specific gravity of 1.18 g/cc. They also provide 89.1 percent indoor light transmission and activate rapidly to ISO Sunglass Category 3 range, making them the ideal lens choice for both indoor and outdoor use.

ChangeRx lenses are available in a wide range of powers and bases. Specific release dates will be announced.
